Report the Result, Watch the Rate Move

Monvoke's rating system updates every player's rate and your server's Rate Ranking automatically the moment a host reports a custom match result. There's no spreadsheet to update after each scrim. Run /ranking and the current standings are right there.

Report a Result and Watch Your Rate Move

Once a custom match wraps up, the host can report the result from the recruitment message. The options shown are things like "Team A wins" or "Team B wins," and reporting them updates every player's rate automatically using the Elo method. Rates start at 1500: winners go up, losers go down.

If a match didn't really happen (someone dropped, or connections failed before it started), the host can report it as void instead. A void match doesn't move anyone's rate, so results you don't want counted never touch the numbers.

Once rates move, the Rate Ranking for that rating type reflects the change immediately. Nobody has to recount who's won what.

Rates Are Split by Server and by Rating Type

The same player holds a separate rate on every server. Within a single server, they also hold a separate rate for each rating type you've set up.

That split matters in practice. If your server runs custom matches for more than one game, you don't have to let the numbers blur together: a hot streak in one game won't read as skill in another. Once you decide which rating type a given match uses, everything else accumulates on its own.

Set Up a Rating Type

Rating types are configured by server admins through /config. Run /config, choose "Rating Type," and a modal opens where you can add, delete, or reset rating types in one place. /config itself is restricted to members with the server's Administrator permission.

Adding a rating type requires the Plus plan. Free servers use only the "Default" rating type that comes built in (deleting or resetting a rating type doesn't require Plus). If you want to run more than one rating type side by side, Plus is the prerequisite.

A common split is by game, with a rating type for Apex Legends and another for VALORANT. Another is by mode within the same game: a 5v5 scrim and a 3v3 scrim can each get their own rating type, since the two call for different skills and you may not want one bleeding into the other's numbers.

Every rating type you've registered shows up in the dropdown on /ranking.

From Starting a Scrim to Reporting the Result

Custom matches are created with /custom. The rating_type parameter lets you pick which of your server's rating types applies to that match.

For symmetric matches, the player count is an odd number from 1 to 9, entered without counting the host. To fill an 8-player, 4-vs-4 match, enter 7 (the host plus that number split into two teams once the lobby fills). Team assignment then accounts for rate automatically. For how that balancing works, and how players can shuffle or switch teams before the match starts, see Discord Team Balance Bot for Custom Matches.

Once the match ends, the host reports the result from the recruitment message, and every player's rate updates and flows straight into the Rate Ranking. With a rating type already set up, this same sequence repeats for every scrim.

Check Your Rank and the Server's Rate Ranking

Rates and rankings live behind /ranking. Running it brings up a ranking message with two ways to read it.

The first is the dropdown: pick a rating type and the Rate Ranking switches to match. It shows up to 100 players, twenty per page.

The second is the "Check Rate" button. Clicking it shows the rates and ranks you personally hold across every rating type on the server, so you can see where you stand without switching the dropdown back and forth.

The buttons and dropdown on a ranking message keep working even after the bot restarts, so it's safe to leave one posted in a permanent channel.

Resetting Rates When You Need a Clean Slate

To start a season over, an admin opens /config, chooses "Rating Type," and specifies which type to reset in the modal. Every player's rate under that rating type returns to the default of 1500. Like /config itself, this is limited to members with Administrator permission.
