Dead by Daylight Custom Match Discord Bot - 1v4 and 2v8

Running a Dead by Daylight custom lobby with friends usually means finding someone willing to be Killer and sorting everyone else into Survivor slots by hand. Monvoke's /custom command replaces that with a single asymmetric option: pick 1v4 for a fixed 1 Killer + 4 Survivors, or 2v8 for a fixed 2 Killers + 8 Survivors, and the moment the lobby fills, every role is already assigned.

Fix Dead by Daylight's Killer and Survivor count with /custom's asymmetric option

DbD's 1v4 isn't a symmetric team split, it needs exactly one Killer against four Survivors. Monvoke's /custom command has an asymmetric parameter for exactly this: choosing 1v4 or 2v8 locks the lobby to that shape from the start.

1v4 fixes the lobby at 1 Killer + 4 Survivors (5 total). 2v8 fixes it at 2 Killers + 8 Survivors (10 total). A regular custom match (a symmetric one) asks you to enter an odd member count not counting yourself as host, so adding you brings the total to an even number Monvoke can split evenly between Team A and Team B, but an asymmetric lobby has a fixed size, so that input doesn't appear at all. Setting one up only takes a title and a description.

Once the recruitment message is posted, joining works the same as /invoke or a symmetric /custom lobby: members click Join and take a slot. Nobody needs to decide who's playing Killer before the lobby even fills.

Roles are locked in the moment the lobby fills

Once 5 players join for a 1v4 (or 10 for a 2v8), Killer and Survivor roles are assigned automatically right then. There's no waiting for everyone to show up so the host can sort people manually.

That assignment is a random shuffle. Symmetric custom matches sort players by rate and alternate the assignment to keep both teams close in strength, but asymmetric matches skip rate entirely. Killer and Survivor are different roles by design, not two sides meant to be balanced against each other, so rate isn't part of the split. For how the symmetric team split actually works, see Discord Team Balance Bot for Custom Matches | Monvoke.

Swap killers or reshuffle the whole lobby after teams are set

Right after teams are set, and before the match starts, the recruitment message's buttons let you adjust the lineup.

If someone who wanted Killer got put on Survivor, hitting Switch Team swaps just that player between the two sides, nobody else's slot changes. If the split feels off overall, for instance a group of friends all landed on Survivor, the host can hit Shuffle to redo the random assignment for everyone. Both buttons work for symmetric and asymmetric matches alike.

One thing to note: once the lobby fills, the gear icon (recruitment settings) disappears from the message, so the title and description can no longer be edited. Reshuffling teams is still possible through the buttons, but changing the wording means canceling the recruitment and starting a new one.

A Maybe RSVP covers "I might make it", not a held slot

Members who aren't sure yet can hit Maybe instead of Join. A Maybe RSVP doesn't count toward the target. Once confirmed members plus Maybes reach the target (5 for 1v4, 10 for 2v8), everyone still on Maybe gets a DM asking if they can join.

A Maybe RSVP doesn't reserve a slot: if the lobby fills with other confirmed members while someone is still on Maybe, that member is treated as not joining. Switching to Join from that DM or the recruitment message still works as long as the lobby hasn't filled yet. The host themself can't leave their own recruitment.

Once the lobby fills, every member gets a DM, and a voice-channel action menu appears on the recruitment message. For how dedicated VCs and ID sharing work from there, see Discord Recruitment to Voice Channel: What Happens Automatically.

Report the match, and keep void matches off the rate

When the match ends, the host reports the result from the recruitment message, picking something like "Team A wins." That report updates every participant's rate automatically.

If the match didn't happen, say a player disconnected, it can be reported as void instead. A void match keeps the match count but leaves rates unchanged. Reporting results and updating rates works the same way for asymmetric matches as it does for symmetric ones. For how the rate itself is calculated, see Report the Result, Watch the Rate Move.
