Discord LFG Bot with Maybe & Waitlist Buttons

RecruitmentFeatures

Track "maybe" replies without losing them or over-counting them

Monvoke's recruitment messages have a Maybe button alongside Join and Leave. Marking Maybe keeps someone listed on the post without adding them to the group count, and they stay listed as a maybe until they either confirm or the slot fills without them.

Every Discord LFG post gets a few replies that aren't a clear yes: someone might be free later, or they'll join if the timing works out. Counting them as confirmed players is risky, and dropping them from the post entirely means chasing them down again if a spot opens up. The Maybe button exists to hold that middle ground.

What the recruitment post looks like once someone marks Maybe

Say you run /invoke for a group of 6. Now imagine 4 people have joined and 1 person marked Maybe.

The member count on the post only tracks confirmed joins, so it shows 5/6, with the maybe listed separately from the member list. Since the group isn't full yet, the recruitment stays open.

Once confirmed members plus maybe members reach the target (6 in this case), the maybe member gets an automatic DM asking if they can join. If they switch to Join at that point, they're added as a full member. But if someone else fills the last spot first, they're treated as not joining. Maybe never reserves a spot, so if you need someone to show up, tell them to hit Join instead.

The post keeps accepting people after it's full

Once the group size is reached, the recruitment auto-completes and the Join button stops working for anyone new. Monvoke's recruitment message shows a Waitlist button the moment the post fills up, so people who missed the cutoff can still get in line without you having to open a second thread or track names in a spreadsheet.

When someone drops, the next person in line gets promoted automatically

If a confirmed member leaves, the first person on the waitlist is automatically promoted to a full member, and they get a DM letting them know. You don't have to decide who fills the gap or message the waitlist yourself.

For example, say a recruitment for a group of 6 fills up, and 3 more people join the waitlist. Right before the group heads out, one confirmed member leaves. The person at the top of the waitlist is instantly promoted, gets a DM confirming their spot, and the post's counter goes back to 6/6: no manual reshuffling on your end.

Note that the host can't press Leave. If you need to restart the recruitment from scratch, cancel it first (host-only) and post a new one.

Starting short-handed with "Start Now"

Sometimes you don't want to wait for the last few players. When the host presses Start Now, the recruitment starts right there even though the group isn't full yet, so you can move ahead with whoever's already in.
